Holistic healing schools take an alternative approach to the healing arts, educating students in the use of natural, non-surgical, and drug-free health treatments. Believing in the self-healing mechanisms of the body, holistic healing schools teach alternative health care methods such as hypnosis, meditation, aromatherapy, massage therapy, astrology, Feng Shui, natural and energy healing, spiritualism, yoga, and much more.
Holistic healing schools (also known as Natural Healing Schools) are one of the most popular of new age teachings. Holistic studies can encompass everything from the martial arts like Tai Chi, to Reiki and Zero-balancing. Future practitioners learn natural methods of alleviating pain and homeopathic ways to cure the body’s ills.
The length of time it will take to complete a Holistic Healing course depends on the objectives of the student. There are advanced degree programs for Natural Healing, including four-year degrees in acupuncture, acupressure, herbal prescription, TaijiQuan and meditation. Many schools offer 600-hour programs for massage therapy and other forms of holistic therapy, while others offer workshops and seminars that can last from a few hours to a few weeks.
Because holistic healing is so popular, it is taught in hundreds of schools, and there may be a holistic healing school near you. If not, perhaps an online course of study is the right educational path for you.

Dental Diseases – Ayurveda Concept
05.24
Ayurveda believes in three doshas, which are vata, pitta, and kapha, each person having a unique blend of them. A disease is viewed, as a state of imbalance and Ayurveda believes that the mouth is the seat of the kapha dosha. Care must be taken not to vitiate it since problems with the kapha dosha lead to several dental problems.
Few Dental diseases are:
How to Identify the Symptoms of Anemia
05.21
Anemia is a condition in which the hemoglobin content of the blood is below normal. Hemoglobin is the vital component of red blood cells (RBC). Red blood cells are responsible in the transport of oxygen, a vital substance for red cells’ survival. Without hemoglobin therefore, the biochemical and physiologic processes in the body would not be able to occur. This would result to cell death, tissue death and then eventually organ death.
There are several causes of anemia. This may be due to chronic or acute blood loss, blood dyscrasia, or as a secondary result of another condition like in hookworm anemia, which is the result of parasitism with Ancylostoma doudenale and Necatur americanus.
There are also several types of anemia, hemolytic anemia, pernicious anemia, iron-deficiency anemia to name some. The following are the general overview of anemia.
What are the physical symptoms of Anemia?
1. Pallor of the skin, mucosal lining of the eyes and palms are some physical indication that a person is anemic.
2. Dyspnea or difficulty of breathing. There is also shortness of breath.
3. Headache or light-headedness, because of the lack of oxygen in the brain.
4. Easy fatigability. The person gets exhausted very easily even upon light, physical exertion.
5. Nausea and dizziness. The person feels dizzy very often.
6. Amenorrhea/absence or scanty menstruation.
What are the laboratory diagnostic symptoms of anemia?
1. Hemoglobin values are below normal. Normal values for female = 12- 16 gm/dL (120 g/L- 160 g/L), male = 12.5 – 18 mg/dL (125 g/L – 180 g/L)
2. Hematocrit values are below normal. Normal values for female = 42
Bowen Therapy – Mr. Tom Bowen
05.21
After serving in World War II Tom Bowen worked at the Geelong Cement Works as a general hand. He was quite athletic and played numerous sports. It was through his love of sports, and regular attendance at sporting events, that Mr. Bowen became interested in massage and other forms of soft tissue manipulation.
Tom Bowen had no “hands-on” training as we know it, but is thought to have been powerfully influenced by a man at the footy club who was himself a professional “manipulator.” The two spent many hours exchanging ideas.
Ultimately, however, it was Tom Bowen’s genuine desire to be of service and help others that led to the discovery of his technique.
In 1974, Mr. Bowen met Oswald Rentsch at a conference for naturopaths and natural therapists in Adelaide, Austalia. Bowen invited Ossie, a practicing massage therapist, to learn from him. Ossie traveled with his wife Elaine to Tom’s clinic in Geelong for a short visit that was to last for two and half years.
Please join me for the next segment of my article about Bowen Therapy to learn about the collaboration between Tom Bowen and Ossie Rentsch – Tom Bowen’s Legacy.

Eliminate the Effects of Insomnia – End Tiredness and Get Better Sleep
05.20
If you find yourself tossing and turning in bed, unable to sleep night after night, it won’t be long before you start feeling the effects of insomnia. You will become irritable towards the people around you, you will become forgetful, you will feel constantly tired and lightheaded…the list go on. When you lack the required amount of quality sleep, your bodily functions will eventually break down. In order to prevent this, you will have to equip yourself with the information necessary to win the battle against insomnia.
Live Well, Sleep Well
Generally speaking, those people who eat healthy foods on a regular basis, get adequate exercise and basically do all the right things in terms of a healthy lifestyle, are the same people who sleep very well throughout the night. So if you want to conquer your sleep problems, you can start by making positive changes to your daily routines.
For starters, you should cut down on sugar-rich foods, especially when it is close to bedtime. Sugar will only make your mind more active when you should be relaxing and getting ready for sleep. On the other hand, there are foods that do promote relaxation and sleepiness, particularly those that contain a substance called tryptophan. A very common example of this is milk, which can be very effective in eliminating the effects of insomnia.
Exercise and Relax
The inability to sleep may also be caused by unreleased energy in the body at night. A good solution is to get regular exercise during the day. Stress is another common cause of insomnia. If you are working too hard, try to cut down on your workload. You should also try to avoid being in stressful situations as much as possible.
Many people today are always rushing to get to meetings, to beat deadlines or even to do household chores. Several times during the day, just stop and take a deep breath. That could be all you need to reduce the stress and anxiety that may be causing your insomnia.
Without proper and immediate treatment, the effects of insomnia can be seen in other aspects of your life, such as reduced productivity at work or broken relationships. That is why it is crucial to find a solution to your sleeping problems as soon as possible.
Natural Sleep Aids
The help of natural sleep aids, containing melatonin, can eliminate the effects of insomnia as you will enjoy a good nights sleep. If you are not the one suffering from insomnia but are living with someone who is, the effects of insomnia may be affecting you as well. For everyone to be happy and healthy, you should show support to the insomniac and do whatever you can to help them get better sleep.
How to Prevent Premature Greying of Hair
05.13
Imagine one white sheep among hoards of black ones and chances are that you would immediately think of your 100 grey strands among a million black ones. Hair that prematurely turns grey is an embarrassment for many and a nagging problem for the youth of today.
Although with age, hair tends to turn grey, but graying at an early age that is, prematurely, is totally demotivating and discomforting causing a young person to look much older than he/she actually is.
But what actually is the reason for our hair turning grey? “Well, there is no one reason”, says, Dr Anjali Dange, dermatologist and hair transplant surgeon, “it’s a culmination of various factors that lead to graying of hair among youngsters between 20 and 35 years and among children who are as young as seven years”. “In fact”, quips Dr Dange, “one in every five adults in their 20′s suffer from grey hair”.
A grey hair strand means that the cells in hair follicles cease to produce the pigment that gives hair its color. “And once the production of grey hair in hair follicles starts, there is no way it can go back to produce the natural hair colour” says Dr Dange
So what exactly causes our hair to turn grey?
The reasons for hair turning grey range from hereditary or genetic factors, wherein grey hair are passed down to the next generation to an unhealthy and incomplete diet that lacks essential nutrients like copper, iodine, iron, vitamin B12. Stress and anxiety also contribute significantly towards premature graying of hair.
Besides, other important causes are:
Chronic cold
Not washing hair regularly thereby inviting dandruff
Using electric dryers and concentrated hair dyes
Chronic constipation, anemia, and thyroid problems
Hormonal imbalance
Illness and infectious diseases
Chemotherapy and radiation
Hair also tends to turn grey due to constant exposure to the sun or wind, as it can lead to hair follicles turning weak and brittle, thereby reducing their pigment producing capacity.
“However”, says, Dr Dange, “there is no sure shot treatment by which you can get rid of grey hair totally. Once the pigment is lost, it cannot come back. Thus the only alternative we now have is to hide our silver locks by colouring them with dyes or henna (mehendi)”.Hence, now the challenge lies in how you maintain the lusciousness of your hair, despite the use of chemicals present in the dyes.
The same opinion is shared by ayurvedic practitioner, Vrushali Kalap when she says, “in ayurveda too, there is no way to prevent or cure premature graying of hair, as it happens due to pitta dosha, however, we can control the frequency with which our hair turns grey.” She recommends breaking Vitamin E tablets and mixing the powder in coconut oil and then applying it on the scalp as a treatment against grey hair.
However, certain home remedies that prevent greying of hair need to be followed in order to control the frequency with which our hair turns grey:
Best remedies:
Do not constantly keep changing shampoos.
Apply oil at least twice a week. This will nourish your hair follicles and will make them stronger.
Limit your intake of coffee, alcohol, fried and oily foods as these can play havoc with the nourishment of hair and its moisture content resulting in premature greying.
Gooseberry (Amla) can promote hair growth and can bring natural darkness to your hair. Dried amla pieces, should be boiled in coconut oil till the solid matter becomes like charred dust. This darkish oil is very useful against premature greying.
